In order to accompany the booming field of oil and gas law, South Texas College of Law is establishing the Houston region's first Oil & Gas Law Institute. With the booming technologies of oil and gas and the legal conflicts that can arise in this field, the school seeks to better prepare law students for work in this energy industry.
What can be expected from the Oil & Gas Law Institute?
Houston has been hailed as the center of oil and gas finance for the western hemisphere, making South Texas College of Law the perfect place to educate law students on the unique issues this technology can bring to the legal arena. Students that attend the Gas & Oil Institute will be equipped to work at law firms who focus on energy practices, such as Herring Law Firm, or working at one of the numerous companies in Texas.
South Texas College of Law already offers courses in oil and gas law, but will add:
- International petroleum transactions
- Midstream and downstream oil and gas activities
- Other sources of energy
- Gas and oil topics symposia
In addition to these courses, the Institute will offer arbitration competitions with gas and oil themes. Some students still in school will be placed in internships in the legal departments of gas and oil law firms.
The development of this institute is in direct response to the growing energy and the increase in their legal needs. By focusing on petroleum-related transactional, title, and regulatory practice skills, the Oil & Gas Institute is taking steps to provide numerous Houston-area businesses with the legal counsel they need.
The Herring Law Firm welcomes the focus on the oil and gas industry. A range of clientele, from landowners,
mineral rights owner,
royalty beneficiaries, and owners and operators of companies are all in need of legal representation in energy-related disputes.
Our firm is always available for clients that need effective legal counsel, so call to schedule a risk-free consultation.
